Reverend Blackheart
Holy War
[We open on Reverend Blackheart sitting at a desk in his rectory attached to his cathedral, firearms and weapons of every sort adorn the walls behind him. Blackheart’s appearance is that of a man at utter peace with himself.]
Reverend Blackheart: “We stand on the edge of war-ah, a war-ah I didn’t ask for. At the end-ah of the day-ah, I’ve always been a peaceful man. The last thing I want is a holy war-ah that doesn’t end.”
[The Reverend’s voice is cold and calm, an icy stream carving its way through a glacier.]
Reverend Blackheart: We can ill afford the cost and the bloodshed a crusade of this nature would require. But we can’t afford to ignore every demon which dahkens our doorstep. Every false prophet who believes their word is strongah than ours.
[The Root of all Evil runs his fingers along the wall of weaponry as he speaks, his voice still calm and cold, but there’s an added edge to it.]
Reverend Blackheart: “Because I must protect my congregation, the shepherd must wahtch ovah his flock. Unlike you, Lux, my house, the Lawd’s house is a fortress, built upon a mountain of faith. Your puny chapel has already been invaded.”
[Blackheart’s eyes narrow, a serious expression crosses his masked face as his lips press into a thin line.]
Reverend Blackheart: “My house of gawd will not be like your chapel to yahweh, because the only people who get to cross the threshold of the lawds house are those ready to hear his word or they’re-ah prepared to pay their penance.”
[The Heart of Darkness sets his jaw.]
Reverend Blackheart: “Which are your Lux? Are you ready to receive the word, or my Gawd, or are you the one looking to pay his penance for your false prophecies? Si vis pacem, para bellum, Lux. If you want peace, prepare for war-ah. Ephesians 6:11-12: “Put on the full armah of Gawd, so that you can take your-ah stand against the devil’s schemes. For our-ah struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the ruler-ahs, against the authorities, against the power-ahs of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”
[The Reverend’s hands grip the desk white-knuckling it as he bends over it like he may pounce over it at any moment.]
Reverend Blackheart: “I protect my flock. No man-ah would dare darken my doorstep. For I am the iron hand of the lawd! I am prepared to be the war-ah machine that stands with purpose and conviction.”
[Blackheart sits back down hard enough that the room shakes a bit.]
Reverend Blackheart: “I have clothed myself… and my followahs in the full armah of the Lawd, I have given them the weapons of biblical destruction, and when we’re done, Lux… The only Holy light you and your followers will bathe in will be the light of the inferno as your Chapel burns to cinders beneath your feet.”
