There is a hunger deep inside.

It grows, bubbles up inside when it hasn't been satisfied.

Oh sure, you can put it off for a while.

Tell yourself you don't need it, that you're better off...but the hunger only grows.

You can push it down and down, and go on with your day.

But it's still there.

It never goes away.

In fact, it gets worse.

Like a disease, it spreads until all you can do is think about it.

It's an itch that needs to be scratched, and your fingers are aching to get their fill.

So, what do you do when the hunger reaches a fever pitch?

You feast.

You devour.

You satisfy that craving, until you forget why you starved yourself in the first place.

No longer hungry but engorged, you're on cloud nine.

Then, the memory brings you crashing back down to earth.

You went hungry for a reason, and all that temptation clouded your judgement.

You were never meant to consume that much, and now it's made you sluggish.

Open to attack.

And then, in the blink of an eye, your hunger is the least of your worries.

We all crave something, we all have that deepest desire we want to fulfill.

Yours, Kaine, is a lust for blood that you've put off as long as you could.

Did you assume that starving yourself would allow you to stay focused on your investigations?

Did you think that solving mysteries would keep you busy enough not to chow down on the first person you saw?

You pushed it off all this time, but you knew deep down it was bubbling up inside.

You couldn't keep it down like you'd hoped.

No one can.

No one stays hungry forever.

They all have to eat eventually.

And by the looks of it, you've had more than your fair share of what you crave.

Your judgement was clouded by that deep desire to tear into someone, to get a taste of that sweet red kroovy.

Look at you now, O mighty HellBat.

You've lost sight of what you were pursuing in the first place.

You forgot why you went hungry.

You're so stuffed from your latest meal that you're sluggish, moving slower than usual.

Open to attack.

And that's where I come in.

Because I crave something that isn't going to slow me down.

Something that I just can't get enough of.

And taking yours will be a step in the right direction.

Unable to run, you will face something far worse than that eternal craving.

Something more permanent.

The buffet table prepared, the sides presented, and the main course?

A detective whose bloodlust did him in.

My hunger will be satisfied, at least until I make my next move.

Because in the end, that's what makes us so different.

I can manage my hunger.

My eyes are on the prize.

And yours are about to be glazed over.

I'm going to enjoy every bite.
