O’Toole Candy Co. Employee Handbook – Section I – Introduction

In Promo, Teddy O'Toole by Teddy O'Toole

Congratulations! If you are reading this, you’ve been hired to work in the Ol’ Factory of O’Toole Candy Co., the biggest and best candy company in all of Arcadia.

It is an exciting time for the both of us. But I, your humble CEO, ask that you temper that excitement.

You might notice when you step onto the Ol’ Factory floor that it is utter pandemonium. Things are moving very quickly, and I ask that you do your best to keep up. Be wary, watch your surroundings and keep an eye on your fellow employees.

Why?

Well, despite my nature, I won’t sugarcoat the situation you’ve placed yourself in by accepting this position.

This is a dangerous job.

One wrong move, and you could lose everything you’ve worked so hard for.

The man or woman to your left and right? Despite belonging to the same roster of employees, they are not here to look out for you. In most cases, they are actively attempting to outperform you, to exceed you, and indeed, to beat you.

The culture here at O’Toole Candy Co. is not sweet. Sometimes, this place can feel like a real slaughterhouse of sorts. There may be days that you step on the floor and you feel like little more than a lamb being lead to slaughter.

This is by design.

You cannot survive this work environment if you are weak.

We hire the very best from all over Arcadia. Some of our employees are from the Bleakest areas of Arcadia. Some of our employees have religious convictions. Some of our employees have a screw loose.

Some of us have worked for the APD. Some of us have killed people.

But all of us are united by a common goal.

To become the very best at our jobs that we can.

So how can you become the best at your job?

The answer is as simple as it is alarming.

It will require more than chocolate. It will require your blood, your sweat, and your tears.

If you truly desire it more than your peers, your performance will reflect that desire. You will outwork, outhustle, outmaneuver, and outperform your fellow employees.

This is how you gain that coveted raise and promotion.

But the truth of it all is that here? There is only so far up the candy cane you can rise.

As stated previously, there are times where you will feel like a lamb being led to slaughter.

But fear not.

For I am your shepherd.

So when you step on that factory floor, and you begin competing with the other employees, know they feel the same as you.

Know they too feel like a lamb being led to slaughter.

But know this too, your shepherd is here for you.

And if you ever try to outwork, outhustle, outmaneuever, or outperform me?

That feeling of being a lamb led to the slaughter will be more than just a feeling.

For who can slaughter a lamb?

The Candy Man Can.

Congratulations on your employment.
