Lonesome

In Jackson Cade, Promo by Jackson Cade

“Allow me to paint you a picture.”

“There’s a lonesome road, and on it walks a singular hound. It’s separated from its litter, no one to help him as he limps down the street. Blood leaks from a wound on its side and fear fills its eyes.”

“What do you do when you see a creature like this fearing for its life?”

“You can’t approach it and offer your help, it’ll just snap and bite at you until you back away. The dog is frightened, it’s scared and ready to fight for its life at the slightest aggression.”

“Yet, you also can’t leave it to walk alone.”

“An animal like that will do one of two things when left wounded and alone. It’ll lash out, or it’ll suffer.”

“So what do you do?”

“What any kind hearted man would do, you swallow your pride, ignore your empathy, and you put it down.”

“As you make your way across the levels of Arcadia I want to applaud your tenacity, Drewitt. For the longest time you’ve taken it upon yourself to travel all on your own with no one by your side but the dog you call Colt. You’re a lonesome drifter, a solitary man whos made it this far and is willing to make it further.”

“At least, that’s what you’d want to believe.”

“Because you see, you’re wounded Drewitt. Not just physically, but mentally. Teddy put a bullet between your eyes and you came back with a warring howl and a damaged psyche. Blood dripping from your skull you prepared to walk through the streets like that wounded dog and by the look in your eyes you don’t think you can trust anyone.”

“Teddy’s the one who wounded you.”

“Drexl took pleasure in abusing your bloodied hide and broken mind for his own gain.”

“No one who came across your path did anything to help you and now you’ve become angry, you’ve become violent. Weary of anyone who would even dare give you their hand to sniff and liable to bite at them at a moments notice.”

“As such, you walk a lonesome road, still scared, still angry, no one around you safe so long as you believe they just might wish to do you harm.”

“And I’m sorry, Drewitt.”

“But when it comes to wild animals roaming the streets of Arcadia, I have a job to do.”

“You see Zeus and the APD all know just how dangerous a lone dog like you can be, they’ve seen a wounded hound maul anyone in their path. We can’t let that happen.”

“So they sent me to deal with it.”

“Call me animal control, call me Perseus, the only thing you need to know is that I’m here to do something I don’t want to do.”

“I’m here to put you down.”

“One clean shot between the eyes, one hostile down in an instant.”

“I’m doing what I must.”

“And I’m doing it by the book.”

“Eagles Soar.”
