Lake Of Devils

In Promo by Tommy Hawk

One day, a young man called Nanabozho returned to his lodge after a long journey. He expected to find it as he had left it. It was not to be. Instead, his lodge had been destroyed. To understand why, Nanabozho searched for clues as to what had destroyed his home and deduced it was a great serpent.

He picked up his bow and arrows and followed the tracks of the serpent. He passed great rivers, crossed over large valleys, and finally came upon the shores of a deep and gloomy lake. This lake is now known as the Lake Of Devils.

The trail of the great serpent led to the edge of the water.

Nanabozho could see at the bottom of the lake, the house of the great serpent. It was filled with evil spirits who were his servants. They were monstrous and terrible. In the centre of the group was the great serpent himself, coiling his terrifying length around them.

The head of the serpent was a dark black. His eyes glowed like fire. Looking down on these twisting spirits of evil, Nanabozho made up his mind that he would end the great serpent.

He said to the clouds, “Disappear!”

And they did.

He said to the winds, “Winds, be still at once!” and the winds became still.

When the air over the lake had become stagnant, Nanabozho said to the sun…

“Shine over the lake with all the fierceness you can. Make the water boil.”

When the water boiled, the great serpent would leave it and his spirits behind, allowing Nanabozho to seek his revenge and kill it.

When I returned home to Old School Wrestling and saw that a great serpent had destroyed it, I knew precisely what I had to do. I have followed you to your dark and gloomy lake, Viper Roberts.

I can see all the evil spirits you house inside it, those who do your bidding and follow your every word. I see your coiling body around them.

And whilst you are protected by your followers, you are safe. Inside this lake, you are safe.

But on Monday, I will speak to the clouds and part them, I will be still the wind and I will send the beating sun upon your lake of gloom, boiling it with you inside. You will leave your evil spirits behind to escape that grizzly doom and when you do, I will do as Nanabozho did and remove your head from your slivering torso.

Once the head of the serpent is gone, the body is returned to the Earth.

The spirits are released back to the world.

And the lake of devils, will be no more.
